UCAT

Applicants meeting the UCAT threshold, achieving Band 1 or 2 in the SJT, and meeting minimum academic requirements (e.g. GCSEs) are eligible for interview. Where the number of eligible candidates exceeds available interview slots, they are ranked by UCAT total score and SJT band.

Band 1 or 2 is required to be considered for interview, though it doesn't guarantee a place if demand exceeds capacity. Bands 3 and 4 are excluded.

Academic Requirements

136 UCAS points. We accept a full range of qualifications that carry UCAS points, including A-levels, BTECs and T-levels.

GCSE Requirements 

• At least seven GCSEs at grade 7/A or above
• English Language and Mathematics at grade 6/B (English Literature is not accepted in place of English Language)
• At least two science subjects at grade 6/B (66/BB minimum if Dual Award Science or Core and Additional Science are offered)

WP+/WP++ contextual applicants need six GCSEs at grade 7/A or above. GCSE resits are permitted if listed as a pending qualification on UCAS.

A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.

A Level: AAA (AAB contextual)

• Biology/Human Biology or Chemistry
• One of Chemistry, Biology/Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Mathematics or Further Mathematics

No preference for the third subject, and three sciences are acceptable, but overly similar combinations (e.g. Biology and Human Biology, or Mathematics and Further Mathematics together) are not. A pass in the practical element of any science A-Level taken is required. Only three A-Levels are counted toward the offer, even if more are taken.

Scottish Highers: You will need Scottish Highers in addition to Scottish Advanced Highers.

Manchester requires 4 Highers at grades AAAA by the end of Secondary 5. Grades should be achieved in the same sitting at first attempt. English language and any science subject (Maths, Chemistry or Biology) not taken at Higher/Advanced Higher must have been achieved at SCQF level 5 (National 5, Intermediate II or Standard Grade Credit level grade 2 or above). Applicants also need Scottish Advanced Highers in addition to Scottish Highers.

Manchester requires three Advanced Highers at AAA, including Chemistry or Biology; a second science (from Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Psychology or Physics); plus one other rigorous academic subject.

International Baccalaureate

36 points overall. 6,6,6, in Higher Level subjects including Chemistry or Biology, plus another science (one from Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology or Mathematics) and one further subject at Higher Level. If Maths and English Language are not offered as part of the Diploma, they should be offered at GCSE or IGCSE at grade B (6) or above. We accept both Maths options as part of the Diploma.

Graduate Applicant Degree Requirements

We require a minimum of an upper second-class (2.1) honours in your Bachelor’s or integrated Master’s degree. We will consider graduate applicants from any discipline, provided you meet our minimum GCSE requirements and have a BBB or ABC at A-level including a B grade in either Chemistry or Biology.
