UCAT may be used as part of assessment procedure or in borderline cases. Interviews are awarded based on academic and non-academic rankings.
Personal Statement
Evidence is sought for insight into a career in medicine, experience and reflection of personal responsibility, experience and reflection in a caring environment, a balanced approach to life, self-directed learning and a sense of social awareness, in addition to positive referee's comments.

GCSE Requirements
GCSE Requrements for Cardiff University School of Medicine are:
- Maths - Grade 6 minimum
- English - Grade 6 minimum
- Science - Grade 6 minimum in Biology and Chemistry or Dual Award Science
- Other requiremants - 8 GCSEs must be offered, If Welsh Language is offered, it must also be supplemented with English Language at a minimum of a grade 6 (B).
GCSEs are scored: 3 points for a 9; 3 points for a 8; 2 points for 7; 1 point for 6.
A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.
AAA at A level which should include Chemistry and Biology. The Welsh Baccalaureate is accepted in the place of a third A level. General Studies, Critical Thinking and Further Maths are not accepted.
International Baccalaureate
IB Diploma with a minimum overall score of 36 and 766 in 3 Higher level subjects. Must include grade 6 in HL Biology or Chemistry AND grade 6 in one other HL science from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics. Must also include grade 7 in SL Biology or Chemistry if not taken at HL.
Widening Participation
The academic and non-academic attainment of a candidate will be reviewed against educational performance data and socio-economic background to provide an overview of an applicant’s potential. The medical school will consider this information when deciding whether to call a candidate for interview. See website for details.
