The University of St Andrews Medical School in Scotland provides the Medicine (A100) and the North American Medical Programme (St Andrews)(A990) courses that require UCAT.

Interviews are allocated according to UCAT score (once minimum academic requirements and satisfactory personal statement and reference are met). The SJT is used in interview process.

In recent years, the lowest score to be granted an interview has been around 2400.

Not scored but health-related work experience required for applicant to be considered for interview.

Academic Requirements

GCSE Requirements

GCSE Requrements for University of St Andrews Medical School are:

  • Maths - Grade 5 minimum if not offered at A level
  • English - Grade 5 minimum if not offered at A level
  • Science - Grade 5 minimum in biology if not offered at A level
  • Other requiremants - 5 GCSEs at grade 7 minimum. Dual award Science is not acceptable instead of GCSE Biology

GCSEs are not scored. Only minimum requirements needed

A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.

AAA at A level including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Maths or Physics.

AAAAB at Higher in S5 including grade A in Chemistry and one other of Biology (or Human Biology), Maths or Physics, to be taken in the same sitting. In addition, grades BBB in Highers or Advanced Highers in S6 are required.

International Baccalaureate

38 points. At Higher level, grades 6,6,6 to include Chemistry and one other of Biology, Maths or Physics. At Standard level, grades 6,6,6 to include Maths, Biology, English if not offered at Higher level.

Graduate Applicatant Degree Requirements

Applicants with a 2:1 honours degree in a science subject, achieved in the last five years, will be considered with a B grade at A level or Advanced Higher Chemistry, and B grades GCSE or National 5 Biology, English and Maths.

Widening Participation

Widening participation applicants may be considered with lower than standard grades. See website for explanation of academic and contextual requirements. St Andrews participates in the Reach scheme.
