GCSE Requirements

GCSE Requrements for Aston University Medical School are:

  • Maths - Grade 6 minimum
  • English - Grade 6 minimum
  • Science - Chemistry & Biology or Double Science Award at grade 6 minimum
  • Other requiremants - Five GCSEs/IGCSEs at grade 6 or above, must include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Double Science

6 GCSEs are scored with Maths, English Language, Biology and Chemistry being compulsory. The highest two grades in the remaining subjects are included to make up 6 in total. The grades are given a score: A* (9/8) = 4, A (7) =3, B (6) = 2, C (5) = 1. Unless you have achieved A levels, GCSEs make up 2/3 of selection for interview.

A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.

A Level: AAA including Chemistry and Biology (with a pass the practical elements).

International Baccalaureate

A minimum of 36 points is accepted. 666 at Higher Level in Biology and Chemistry and the rest from three subjects at Standard Level (SL) ad Diploma Programme Core

Graduate Applicant Degree Requirements

For graduate applicants, normally a minimum of an upper second class Honours degree (2:1) in any discipline plus three A Levels at grades ABB to include Chemistry and Biology with either at grade A. The university degree must be from a recognised UK or NARIC approved university. In addition, applicants will normally be required to have the same GCSE requirements as other applicants.

Widening Participation

Aston Medical School aims to recruit up to 40% of students who meet widening participation criteria, preference will be given to local students including those who are on the Sir Doug Ellis Pathway to Healthcare Programme.
