Lancaster University Medical School in England provides a Medicine and a Medicine with Gateway Year courses.
Lancaster Medical School calculates the total BMAT score by combining the individual scores for Sections 1, 2 and 3. Section 1 is scored out of 9; Section 2 is scored out of 9; and Section 3 is scored out of 5 (for quality of content). They do not use the quality of English score (A-E).
BMAT total scores had a range of 17.2 - 8.9 accepted for interview. The range is generally smaller with a cut-off of around 10.5.
Not assessed but may be used as part of the interview. After interview, they may aim to verify work and voluntary experiences discussed in the applicant's personal statement.
GCSE Requrements for Lancaster University Medical School are:
- Maths - Grade 6 minimum
- English - Grade 6 minimum
- Science - Grade 6 minimum in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (or Core & Additional Science)
- Other requiremants - If Biology or Chemistry is not studied at A-level, then GCSE must be at least grade 7.
All other subjects must be at least grade 4.
8 GCSEs are scored, with 7-9 = 2 points and 6 = 1 point. A minimum score of 13 is required, beyond which GCSEs are not used in selection for interview
A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.
AAA at A Level with three subjects taken at one sitting after two years of study, including any two of Biology, Chemistry or Psychology. Or AAB at A Level; three subjects taken at one sitting, including any two of Biology, Chemistry or Psychology plus a 4th subject or EPQ.
At least 5 subjects taken after one year of study including Biology (A), Chemistry (A) with minimum grades of AAAAB. Advanced Highers of AA including Biology and Chemistry also required.
36 points overall with a minimum of 6 in three Higher Level subjects including any two of Biology, Chemistry and Psychology and a minimum of 5 in three Standard Level subjects.
Graduate Applicant Degree Requirements
65% transcript average in Biomedical/Health Sciences degree plus a minimum of BBB at A-level including any 2 of Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. OR 65% transcript average in any other subject plus normally AAB at A-level including any 2 of Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. All graduate applicants must meet the GCSE requirements.
