What Testing Date Should I Choose for UCAT UK?

Bookings to sit UCAT UK 2022 are now open! If you are planning to sit UCAT in 2022 for entry into medicine in 2023, we suggest booking your UCAT testing date as soon as possible. Remember, popular dates, times and locations to sit UCAT do book out!

UCAT offers a variety of testing dates, times and locations. This gives you the flexibility to choose a UCAT testing session that is convenient to you. Here are three key tips for choosing your perfect UCAT 2022 testing session.

1. Choose your UCAT date and time carefully

UCAT is an important test, so it is vital that you take some time to consider the best UCAT 2022 testing date and time for you. Factors you should consider when choosing a UCAT date include:

  • School holidays: schools tend to have holidays over most of the UCAT testing period (which takes place from mid July to late September). School holidays are the perfect time to prepare for UCAT. If possible, schedule your UCAT testing date closer to the end of your school holidays. This will ensure you have time to prepare for UCAT as well as time to look after your physical and psychological health before UCAT test day.
  • Other activities: consider any other activities that you may have during the UCAT testing period, including part time work, volunteering, extra-curricular commitments and travel/holidays to avoid any clashes with UCAT.
  • School exams and assessments: consider any exams or assessments that you may have in the UCAT testing period or shortly afterwards, and avoid scheduling UCAT too close to these. You don’t want to over-load your schedule with academic commitments and end up burning out before UCAT.

Also carefully consider the UCAT testing time that works for you. Depending on the UCAT testing location that you select, you may have many options for when to sit UCAT. Consider if you work best in the morning or afternoon and select your UCAT testing time accordingly. Don’t forget to factor in travel to the UCAT test venue and mealtimes when choosing your preferred testing time.

2. Make your booking as soon as possible

Given bookings for UCAT UK do not close until late September, it can be tempting to postpone the decision until later on. However, popular dates and locations do book out, so if you are intending to sit UCAT 2022, you should select your preferred testing date and location now! This will ensure that you secure the best time, date and location for you. If you leave it too late to book, you may end up having to sit UCAT in a location far from where you reside, or at a time that is unsuitable. This can have a negative impact on your performance.

Remember, you can easily reschedule your booking via your Pearson VUE web account up until 22 September (after this date you will need to phone Pearson VUE customer services to reschedule your UCAT test).

3. Leave yourself a ‘buffer’

Although you may be tempted to book the last possible UCAT testing date to ensure you are ‘ready’ so sit UCAT and have undergone sufficient preparation, it is recommended that you leave yourself at least 2-3 weeks before the end of the UCAT testing period as a ‘buffer’. This will give you the opportunity to postpone your UCAT testing date if necessary – for example, if you become ill or there is an unexpected clash with another commitment. Remember, test centre availability becomes very limited in the last few weeks of testing.

You can find instructions on how to register and book your UCAT UK 2022 test on the UCAT Official website.

And most importantly, don’t forget to undergo quality UCAT preparation!
