Any science A Level (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) completed in England from 2017 must include a pass in the practical endorsement; without this the qualification will be judged to have been failed, regardless of the headline grade. Only one subject from a combination of Maths or Further Maths or Statistics will be considered within the three A Levels. The qualification must have been completed in the last five years.
AB at Advanced Higher from two science subjects.
AAAAB at Scottish Higher including Chemistry or Biology plus a second science at grade A.

International Baccalaureate

Any science not taken at Higher Level should be offered at Standard Level Grade 5 or GCSE Grade 6/B. The English Language GCSE requirement can be fulfilled by attaining Grade 6 in English A. Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay (Core) points are not included in the 35 points required.
Graduate Applicant Degree Requirements
A 2:1 degree in any subject, completed within five years of application. BBB at A level including Biology or Chemistry plus another science and GCSE Maths, English Language and either Double Award or Triple award science at a minimum of grade B/6. If a candidate studied the International Baccalaureate, please contact the university for more details.
A master’s degree cannot compensate for an undergraduate classification below 2:1 as Sunderland wish to see evidence of a candidate’s ability to succeed at undergraduate level. Graduates who hold a 2:1 degree who do not hold BBB in the required A levels or have the grades but not in the required subjects can be considered but will need to have completed GAMSAT. The GAMSAT can be used to compensate for A-Level subjects and/or grades or GCSE subjects and/or grades but not both.
Widening Participation
A significant aim of the medical school is to enable applications from less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds and create doctors who are more representative of the population they serve. Students satisfying some of the Office for Students' Widening Participation metrics will have access to Sunderland's Medicine summer school and will be guaranteed a Multiple Mini Interview, subject to meeting the GCSE, A Level and UCAT requirements. WP applicants will still be required to complete the Roles and Responsibilities form.
