University of Manchester School of Medicine provides the following courses that require UCAT:
- Medicine with preliminary year (A104)
- Medicine (A106)
- Dentistry with preliminary year (A204)
If UCAT is in approximately top 1/3 of results nationally + in Bands 1 or 2 in SJT, will be invited to interview (once academic threshold met). (900-1000 candidates offered interviews)
Other candidates may be invited as part of a holistic assessment well based on all information available. (500-600 candidates offered interviews through this route).
If in SJT Band 4, will not be expected to be invited to interview.
The UCAT threshold in 2019 was 2600.
Personal statement not normally used. An electronic non-academic information form will be sent to candidates ahead of interview.
GCSE Requrements for University of Manchester School of Medicine are:
- Maths - Grade 6 minimum
- English - Grade 6 minimum
- Science - Grade 6 minimum in two sciences or Dual Award Science
- Other requiremants - 7 GCSEs at grade 7 or above minimum; Level 2 BTEC qualifications are acceptable (at distinction grade or above) in lieu of one GCSE
GCSEs are not scored and only minimum requirements are needed. Via the holistic route, GCSEs are considered, but not scored, and selection for interview is based on the “academic
judgment of the colleagues reviewing an application”
A-levels or Scottish Higher requirements.
Standard offer is AAA at A level including Chemistry or Biology/Human Biology, a second science (one from Chemistry; Biology or Human Biology; Physics; Psychology, Maths or Further Maths). A combination of three sciences is equally acceptable at A-level. However, the offer will not accept combinations of very similar subjects, for example, Biology and Human Biology or Maths and Further Maths together.
AA at Advanced Higher by the end of Secondary 6.
AAAA at Scottish Higher by the end of Secondary 5 to be achieved in the same sitting at first attempt.

37 points with 7,6,6 at Higher level. If Maths and English Language are not offered as part of the Diploma, they should be offered at GCSE or IGCSE at grade B or above. Major subjects must include Chemistry or Biology, plus another science (one from Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology or Mathematics) and one further subject at Higher Level. Both maths options are accepted as part of the Diploma.
